Price tag of $1 billion to rebuild the Gabba wasn’t based on analysis

A top Queensland bureaucrat has revealed the $1 billion price tag to rebuild the Gabba for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics wasn’t based on analysis. Director General of the Department of Premier and Cabinet Mike Kaiser admitted the figure wasn’t based on anything when he answered questions from Opposition leader David Crisafulli during yesterday’s budget estimates. The business case wasn’t finalised until last year, and it found the knockdown and rebuild of the Gabba was going to cost $2.7 billion.
