Pro-Palestinian student activist detained by ICE sparks mass protest in NY

Hundreds of people gathered in New York on Monday to protest the arrest of Columbia University student and Pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil by agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (ICE) on Saturday. "Someone who had a green card, someone who has never done anything wrong, who has not committed any crime, at all, and they basically disappeared him," one protester said about the action from the Trump administration. The White House has not said Khalil is accused of or charged with a crime, but Trump wrote that his presence in the U.S. was "contrary to national and foreign policy interests." Since his arrest, Khalil has been moved to a federal jail for migrants in Louisiana to await deportation proceedings, according to a U.S. detainee database.
