The Property Council of Australia has weighed in on the housing debate, saying the federal government will need to double its $3.5 billion incentive handout to state and territories if it wants to reach its housing targets by the end of the decade. “The setting of targets first and foremost is a great thing,” said Property Council of Australia’s Matthew Kandelaars. “That’s something we’ve been calling for, for a long time,” he told Sky News Australia. “It sounds very simple but to set a clear national housing target is critically important, you can’t manage what you can’t measure. “What we’ve called for in our pre-budget submission is a doubling of the invectives payable to states and territories if they do deliver their share of these housing targets.”
