Police in Namayingo District have arrested 12 people protesting against the closure of CN Sugar Factory. Abudalla Twaha, the Namayingo District Deputy Chairman, expressed shock that some people have opposed the factory since the district leadership signed a memorandum of understanding with the firm to operate in the area. According to a letter by Fred Mwebesa, the Minister of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives dated June 17, 2024, he revoked the license of CN Sugar Factory because, according to the law, sugar mills should be within a radius of 25 kilometers. Bugiri Sugar Limited operates in the same area. Mwebesa argues in the letter that the mill should have at least 1,250 acres of sugarcane to start production. However, CN Sugar managers say they have over 1,600 acres of cane. #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition Subscribe to Our Channel For more news visit http://www.ntv.co.ug Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/ntvuganda Connect with us on Messenger via m.me/NTVUganda
