Public reassured about Cybercrime Bill
Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Dale Marshall is reassuring citizens the new Cybercrime Bill's goal is not to restrict general free speech. Debate has resumed on the legislation in Parliament today. According to Mr. Marshall, misinformation abounds and social media thrives on it. He's labelled as a red herring, suggestions Government will police social media. Mr. Marshall insists the state has a duty to protect individuals against conduct that's calculated to cause them harm or may result in harm. He says Barbados has not gone against the Budapest Convention. That treaty seeks to address internet and computer crime by harmonising national laws, improving investigative techniques, and increasing cooperation among nations.
