Putin presents image of overwhelming support by Russians through election, says analyst

Vladimir Putin won by a landslide in Russia's election on Sunday (Mar 17) - one which he had no serious competitors - cementing his already tight grip on power. While his victory was never in doubt, the high levels of support and turnout are ‘a bit surprising’, says Professor Emeritus of Government and International Relations Graeme Gill from the University of Sydney.
