Pygmy hippo Toni explores Berlin Zoo pool | ABS-CBN News
The first time in the pool is special, even for a hippo. Seeking the opportunity of the first dive of pygmy hippopotamus “Toni,” Berlin Zoo invited media to witness her first movements under water on Tuesday (October 29). The female calf was born in June this year and just reached what Berlin Zoo director Andreas Knieriem calls “kindergarten” age. Instinctively, Knieriem said, the young animal understands water and how to behave in it. “Hippos don't swim, they don't do crawl exercises or anything like that. Instead, they run under water”, Knieriem said, adding they use a slight downforce to catch breath. Visitors will soon be able to observe the mini hippo’s progress under water, which is of outstanding quality, according to Knieriem, thanks to powerful filters. The pygmy hippo's natural habitats are lakes and marshlands in Western Africa. Berlin’s offspring was named after German football star Antonio Ruediger, the little hippo’s honorary sponsor. - report from Reuters For more ABS-CBN News, click the link below: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgyY1WylJUmgG2ln-vtKXb-oLlGEZc3sR To watch the latest updates on COVID-19, click the link below: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLgyY1WylJUmgUjPkc730KnTVICyQU6gBf Subscribe to the ABS-CBN News channel! - http://bit.ly/TheABSCBNNews Watch the full episodes of TV Patrol on iWantTFC: http://bit.ly/TVPatrol-iWantTFC Visit our website at http://news.abs-cbn.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/abscbnNEWS Twitter: https://twitter.com/abscbnnews #Exclusive #LatestNews #ABSCBNNews
