The Queensland Labor Party is fearing a bad result in one of two Brisbane by-elections today could foreshadow the end of the Miles government in October’s state poll. Voters in Queensland’s southeast will head to the polls on Saturday for two by-elections – Inala and Ipswich West. Some are predicting a close contest in Ipswich West, which Labor won in 2020 with a margin of 14.35 per cent. Labor fears it could be whittled away at the polls as a protest against the rising cost of living, youth crime and the increased pressure on the Queensland hospital system. Labor is expected to retain Inala, which was vacated by former premier Annastacia Palaszczuk when she stepped down in December.
