Nihon Hidankyo co-chair Toshiyuki Mimaki pinched his face in shock when it was announced that the Japanese atomic bomb survivors' group won this year's Nobel Peace Prize. A visibly emotional Mimaki said the group would continue to support its efforts to demonstrate that the abolition of nuclear weapons was possible. "I thought for sure it would be the people working so hard in Gaza as we've seen," he added. Next year will mark the 80th anniversary of the dropping of nuclear bombs by the United States on Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of 1945.
