Rail workers union says it will comply with back-to-work notice, will appeal decision

The picket lines are down on Sunday at CPKC headquarters in Calgary, Alta., and trains are expected to get moving first thing on Monday morning. While that’s good for halted shipments, the matter may not be settled for good. On top of ending a lockout and simultaneous strike at CPKC, the decision by the Canada Industrial Labour Relations Board effectively voids the 72-hour strike notice that CN and the union issued on Friday morning. The collective agreement that expired on Dec. 31 between CN and the union has now been extended until the new agreement comes into effect. Sarah Offin reports.
