Outgoing United States Ambassador to Barbados and the eastern Caribbean Roger Nyhus says the region is not prepared for the climate change threats it faces. Ambassador Nyhus who experienced and witnessed the devastating impact of Hurricane Beryl says Barbados and other islands in the region must focus on creating resilient commercial buildings and homes. He gave his views on CBC TV8's Mornin' Barbados where he announced that after serving one year as Ambassador, he would be leaving the island on January 20, the day of the inauguration of the president of the United States. Ambassador Nyhus adds that one of his proudest accomplishments during his tenure is helping to secure close to one billion dollars in financing for Barbados and St. Kitts and Nevis. He says the financing will be used to assist with building out climate change resilience programmes, energy transition, and specialised vessels to be used for humanitarian purposes among others.
