Regional cooperation on disaster response has improved since 2004 tsunami, says IFRC advisor
The Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami in 2004 highlighted critical gaps in the region such as uncoordinated relief efforts and inadequate aid processes. One of the key developments since the tragedy was the establishment of the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) in 2005, which strengthened cooperation and improved disaster preparedness in the region.
