Even as Tunapuna Week is being celebrated with a number of activities, the Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation is doing some much-needed rehabilitation work to the Maracas Waterfall site. According to Tourism Trinidad, the Maracas Waterfall, which is situated in St. Joseph, is Trinidad’s highest waterfall with an altitude of 91.5 metres. Councillor for Maracas/Santa Margarita, Trudel Noreiga, said the rehabilitation exercise is all part of the Corporation’s Community Enhancement Project. "Today we are endeavouring to restore the beautiful Maracas Waterfall and Tourism Site here in the Maracas Valley, the tallest waterfall in Trinidad and Tobago. We had a collaborative effort with Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation, schools in the area, Caribbean Union College Secondary School, CEPEP, the Ministry of Local Government, the National Reforestation Programme, all collaborating together to make this restoration exercise possible today." Mr. Noreiga shared what works would be conducted during the rehabilitation exercise. "We are here today repairing the roadway, creating temporary earthen drains, painting and beautifying the infrastructure that is here, power washing, picking up of garbage, you know restoring the waterfall to what it used to be. We have also endeavoured to restore back works on the roadway so cars can now make their way all the way up to the park and carpark." He said the rehabilitation project underscores the Corporation’s commitment to enhance and fix community spaces for the burgesses. Should you and a group decide to visit, Tourism Trinidad advises that you do so with a guided tour by the Trinidad and Tobago Tour Guides Association.
