Over 50 residents in the Lopinot/Bon Air West and Arouca/Maloney communities are one step closer to improving their living conditions. This, as the National Commission For Self Help Limited distributed over $740,000 in Home Improvement Grants at the Bon Air West Community Centre on Thursday. The beneficiaries, having received their Grants on Thursday in a brief ceremony, will now be able to do minor repairs and reconstruction. Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Community Development, Florette Clarke, noted that the Grants serve as more than just monetary support for the residents. She said they serve as "a lifeline to the most vulnerable in society." "These Grants are not just financial aid but represents the Ministry's commitment to improving lives through very specific initiatives that meet every need and addresses societal challenges." Ms. Clarke commended the recipients for being proactive and steadfastness in changing their circumstances. "All of these projects emanated from persons in these communities saying, 'we want better for ourselves,' believing it, and then acting on it. Therefore, taking that first step to approach the Commission for assistance was a critical one as it signals the intention to not only dream of progress but to actively pursue it." Thirty residents from the Lopinot/Bon Air constituency and 27 constituents from the Arouca/Maloney constituency received Grants.
