France is preparing for the second round of its parliamentary elections on Sunday. In towns and villages across France, growing support for the far-right National Rally reflects discontent with mainstream parties. Voters cite neglect, economic challenges, and immigration concerns as driving forces behind their shift in political allegiance. Rural areas, historically leftist, now see increased backing for Eurosceptic and anti-immigrant platforms, posing challenges for traditional left-wing candidates advocating unity against the far-right surge. The first round produced a major victory for the far-right party of Marine Le Pen. Along with its allies, the National Rally won around 33% of the vote. Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith has been speaking to voters in Callac in Brittany, in northwestern France.
