Russia cancels New Year's Eve fireworks display

The New Year's Eve fireworks display in Russia has been cancelled. Russia's President Vladimir Putin says it was cancelled out of respect for the Russian troops returning home from Ukraine. These celebrations have been cancelled since the start of the war in 2022. The 72-year-old president issued a special New Year's Eve address praising the fighters and commanders as 'true heroes' for defending Russia.
