Russia rules out nuclear talks with US because of stance on NATO expansion

Russia has dismissed the possibility of nuclear talks with the United States as a result of Washington’s stance on NATO expansion, the country’s foreign ministry spokesperson said Wednesday. “We see no point in dialogue with Washington without respect for Russia’s fundamental interests,” Maria Zakharova said. “First of all, this is the problem of NATO’s expansion in the post-soviet space, which poses threats to common security.” The comments come after Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Russia would not discuss signing a new treaty with the U.S. to replace the agreement already in place that expires in 2026.
