Safeguarding Our Youth
Practitioners working with young persons in Tobago explored various avenues to support and protect the youth population. This, through a workshop hosted by the Caribbean Girls Collective titled “Safeguarding Our Youth” held at the Mt. Irvine Bay Hotel on Friday. Speaking during the brief Opening Ceremony to a female dominated audience, Minister of Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster-Roy, noted women have a power of influence and stressed men should be part of the conversation. The one-day workshop was facilitated by Mrs. Alian Ollivierre-Skeete of I Am A Girl NGO in Barbados. Last year, the Caribbean Girls Collective hosted a 10-week programme at the Mason Hall Secondary School aimed at encouraging young women to be advocates for change. They have also been hosting similar programmes across the region.
