San Francisco police arrest 70 protestors for entering Israeli consulate
Police arrested at least 70 pro-Palestine protestors on Monday after they entered the lobby of the Israeli consulate in the US city of San Francisco. “Officers developed probable cause to arrest 70 suspects who refused to vacate the building,” the police said in a statement. The International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network said that more than 100 demonstrators had taken part in the protest. The group, which says its membership is Jewish, unfurled banners in the lobby, including one saying, “Committing a genocide makes Jews less safe; Not in my name!” A statement by the Israeli consulate called the protesters “pro-Hamas rioters”. Al Jazeera’s Dena Takruri reports from outside the Israeli consulate in the US city of San Francisco.
