Scientists from Kaunas University of Technology, Lithuania, have developed an innovative method to produce triacetin, a biodiesel additive, using cigarette butts. Through pyrolysis at high temperatures, they extracted 43% triacetin, reducing the environmental hazards associated with conventional production. This process also yields other useful by-products like char for fertilizers and wastewater treatment, and gas for energy.
