Senior scientist keeping his eye on the spread of H5N1
A senior scientist at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill says he is keeping his eye on the spread of Avian influenza or H5N1. This is according to Director of the Centre for Biosecurity Dr. Kirk Douglas, who says there is global concern about the evolving Avian influenza outbreak that is being seen. He says the virus is now being transmitted to other animal hosts which traditionally were never infected prior to this outbreak. And Dr. Douglas notes he would be more concerned about this outbreak, rather than the Human metapneumovirus and other respiratory viruses.
