‘Sheer stupidity’: Geologist questions Matt Kean’s stance on energy solutions

Geologist Ian Plimer has poked holes in Matt Kean’s stance on nuclear energy. Mr Plimer’s comments follow the Climate Change Authority chair’s claim nuclear energy would increase energy bills. “This is just sheer stupidity,” Mr Plimer told Sky News host Rita Panahi. “Mr Kean should know that when Finland put in its reactors … the cost of electricity went down. “By far the most expensive energy in Australia is solar and wind – this is when you look at the total cost. “Solar and wind are not reliable whereas nuclear, coal and gas are reliable.”
