Chinese residents in the southern city of Zhuhai paid tribute to victims of a deadly car-ramming incident on Wednesday, after a driver rammed his car into a crowd at a sports centre on Monday. According to police, the attack left 35 people dead and at least 43 injured. “I’m very shocked. It’s really difficult to accept, ” said a 50-year-old witness, who identified himself as Zheng. "The authorities hadn’t released any information — some colleagues mentioned it and I couldn’t believe it at first, but it was confirmed later." Zhuhai police said in a statement that the suspect, a 62-year-old man, is currently being treated at a hospital for severe neck injuries caused by stabbing himself with a knife in his car. Their preliminary investigation suggests that the incident was triggered by his dissatisfaction following a divorce.
