SIDS disproportionately affected by climate change

Barbados has brought attention to the devastation brought by Hurricane Beryl on Caribbean states. The development, and its relationship with climate change, was highlighted at an international forum in Ethiopia. Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Kereeta Whyte, says Barbados and small island developing states or SIDS are being disproportionately impacted even though they have contributed little to the crisis. She says the frequency and severity of these climate-related disasters severely undermine development prospects. Her comments came during the first session of the Preparatory Committee for the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development, in Addis Ababa. Ms. Whyte says an ambitious programme of action is required to guide financing for development over the next decade.
