Singapore is looking to crack down on people who sell or misuse local SIM cards for criminal activities. Criminal syndicates are increasingly using local SIM cards to bypass authorities' measures to block overseas scam calls and SMSes. If the bill is passed, offenders face up to three years in jail or up to S$10,000 in fines, or both. Repeat offenders could get five years in jail and be fined up to S$20,000. Over 46,000 scam cases were reported in Singapore in 2023, with the total losses amounting to over S$650 million. Aslam Shah reports.
