Singapore must allow for cross-border data flows, access to global talent to drive AI capabilities

Singapore must allow for cross-border flow of data and access to global talent in order to drive the growth of local artificial intelligence capabilities. Senior Minister of State for Communications and Information Janil Puthucheary said this in response to Workers' Party MP Gerald Giam's adjournment motion on global leadership in AI. Mr Giam also proposed for Singapore to create an advanced healthcare AI model, which would then help local start-ups build their own applications to sell to the world. He said this would give Singapore an advantage in the race for global tech leadership.
