SL Young Innovator Hawa Yokie advocating for tech learning opportunities for students
Sierra Leone young innovator -Hawa Yokie said: “We should have this exchange program where students from Sierra Leone spend three months in China and other countries immersing themselves in technology, robotics and other tech fields , then return home. This can serve as a catalyst for Sierra Leone's educational advancement, providing a solid foundation for its students." Hawa Yokie, CEO of the Kamara Yokie Innovation Centre and a former member of Plan International’s youth advisory panel was on AYV’s flagship programme - WakeUp Sierra Leone , advocating for tech learning opportunities for students abroad. Hawa has led a group of young Innovators from Sierra Leone who participated in the just concluded World’s Largest Robotics Competition - the VEX Robotics Global Competition in Dallas, Texas, USA. The Kamara Yokie Innovation Centre aims to create a safe, multi-cultural space, where innovators, creative minds and problem solvers can come together to create solutions to pressing challenges. The centre uses 21st century entrepreneurial leadership and STEM education concepts to harness the untapped potential of young people.
