“Slap in the face”: New Brunswick tenants evicted for demolition, units then posted for higher rent

A resident of Sackville, N.B. was shocked to see their former apartment listed for rent at a higher price after being told the building would be demolished. “Those notices were served on my door. I was at work. I got a text of a picture of my door with those pages, and they clearly stated, ‘We’re demolishing the building,'” said Karlie Rheaume. They and their neighbours were given only a month to find housing and scrambled to find new places to live that was within their budget — not an easy feat in the current housing market.
