Snowstorm disrupts parts of the U.S. over Thanksgiving weekend
A major snowstorm swept through parts of New York, Pennsylvania, and Michigan over Thanksgiving weekend, bringing heavy snowfall, dangerous travel conditions, and frigid temperatures. Erie County, Pennsylvania, saw over three feet of snow, prompting a disaster declaration, while areas in New York and Michigan recorded two feet or more. In Western New York, snowfall reached up to three inches per hour, leading to a state of emergency. The storm, driven by Arctic air, brought temperatures 10–20° F below average across the Northern Plains before spreading eastward. Emergency declarations were issued in affected states, with road closures and hundreds of weather-related incidents reported. In Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, lake-effect snow dumped over two feet in some areas, with more snow expected through Monday. The storm also disrupted travel nationwide, with the National Weather Service warning of “difficult to impossible” conditions in many areas.
