Solomon Island PM visits Australia on first overseas visit

Queensland University Emeritus Professor Clive Moore discusses Solomon Island Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele's first visit to Australia since winning his election last month, during which he met with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. "It's not unusual for Solomon Island Prime Ministers to come to Australia and get 21-gun salutes, it has happened many times," Emeritus Professor Moore told Sky News Australia. "The timing of this is interesting because he has chosen Australia as first his overseas trip since he's become Prime Minister. "He won't go to China till he's up that way anyway in July. "He has given precedents to coming to talk to Australia, and I think Australia wants a better relationship with the Solomons, and the Solomons government certainly wants that with Australia."
