South Korea court issues arrest warrant for impeached president Yoon

A South Korean court on Tuesday approved an arrest warrant for President Yoon Suk Yeol, who has been impeached and suspended from power over his decision to impose martial law on December 3, investigating authorities said. The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials confirmed the Seoul Western District Court approved the warrant. "I question whether the issuance of such an illegal warrant aligns with the principles of the rule of law. It is our position that this unlawful arrest warrant request is illegal and invalid," said Yeol's lawyer, Yoon Kab-keun. Meanwhile, supporters and opponents of South Korea's suspended president rallied near his residence after his arrest warrant was approved. "I think (Yoon) should have been arrested when he declared martial law, and it was illegal. Although it feels pretty late, I think the warrant is at least fortunate," said resident Choi Kwan-Ho.
