South Korea marks 45 years since 1979 military dictatorship
South Korea was placed under a military dictatorship on Dec 12, 1979 – exactly 45 years ago – following the assassination of then-President Park Chung-hee. Then-general Chun Doo-hwan staged a coup, imposed martial law, and ruled the country with an iron fist for eight years. For some South Koreans, President Yoon Suk Yeol's short-lived martial law decree last week brings back memories of this dark period. CNA’s Lim Yun Suk reports.
