South Korea’s parliament votes to impeach president over martial law declaration

South Korea’s parliament on Saturday (Dec 14) voted to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol from office for his failed attempt to impose martial law on Dec 3. Out of 300 lawmakers, 204 voted to impeach the president, achieving the required two-thirds majority that they had failed to secure in the first impeachment vote last week. Although suspended, Yoon remains in office while South Korea's Constitutional Court deliberates whether to uphold his removal.
