There has been a spike in respiratory illnesses on the island. Chief Medical Officer the Most Honourable Dr. Kenneth George tells CBC News health authorities expected an increase in respiratory viruses, including COVID, following Cricket World Cup, Crop Over and Emancipation celebrations. Dr. George says even though it is not mandatory for Barbadians and visitors to wear masks in public spaces, he supports the hospital's decision to require that masks be worn in clinical spaces. He adds that the public should practice hand hygiene, and wear masks when around the elderly and those with non-communicable diseases. Owner of Felimar Plus Pharmacy, and former President of the Barbados Pharmaceutical Society, Yolan Pantin says there has been a recent increase in people visiting her pharmacy requesting assistance with treating sinus-related conditions.
