Spirit Airlines plane hit by gunfire in Haiti's capital, flight attendant struck
A Spirit Airlines flight destined for the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince was struck by gunfire on Monday, forcing it to be diverted to the neighboring Dominican Republic. A flight attendant was injured in the incident but no passengers were wounded, according to Spirit. The Miami Herald had reported that the attendant was grazed by a bullet. The arirline said that it had suspended flights to Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien, which is in Haiti's north, "pending further evaluation." The passengers aboard the Spirit flight on Monday will be taken back in another aircraft to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where the flight departed from, according to Spirit. Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aime took office on Monday as the nation's new interim leader pledging to improve security, as armed gangs carried out the the brazen attack on the Spirit Airlines flight attempting to land in the capital.
