On the first day, a staggering 189 million passenger trips were taken nationwide, up nearly 20 percent from last year. For most people on these trips, it's a time for family reunions. However, this year many Chinese are also opting to travel with their families to new destinations. China's world-class transportation network also plays a role in expanding the itinerary of Chinese tourists.
