Still 'premature' to discuss clemency for Mary Jane Veloso: Bersamin

Talks of a possible grant of clemency for Filipino death row convict Mary Jane Veloso is still "premature," Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said on Tuesday, a day before the Filipina's arrival after 14 years of incarceration in Indonesia. Veloso — who was arrested and sentenced to death in 2010 after 2.6 kilograms of heroin was found in her luggage — will be transferred to the Philippines, where she is expected to be meted with life imprisonment due to the absence of a death penalty in the Philippines.
