Streamlining good for business

There is a suggestion that the Government does not have much room to reduce the cost of living in Barbados. This is the view of the Professor of Tourism Economics and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the West Indies, Professor Troy Lorde. He was speaking ahead of the Budgetary Proposals and Financial Statements for 2025, which will be delivered tomorrow by the Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Ryan Straughn. Professor Lorde believes in that regard, the Government's sole lever to lower the cost of living is tariffs, import taxes and value-added tax. Additionally, Professor Lorde suggests the private sector can benefit from the streamlining of business registration and licensing procedures.
