Strides made in addressing issues affecting BICO employees
The Barbados Workers Union is reporting significant strides in addressing critical issues affecting BICO employees. BWU Legal Officer Alexandria Thomas says key issues related to health and safety, as well as wages, salaries, and allowances are being worked on following intense conciliation talks involving the union, BICO's management and the Labour Department. Ms. Thomas adds the resolution process shows progress can be made when workers unite. On Wednesday October 16, BICO workers withheld their labour as a result of ongoing concerns that were not addressed by the company. Following three days of intense talks, a breakthrough was achieved and on Saturday, October 19 the workers went back on the job.
