Liberal MP Zoe McKenzie agrees with the government’s move to pay super on paid parental leave but is concerned about whether the country can afford it. New mums and dads will receive superannuation on top of their Commonwealth Paid Parental Leave under a new plan unveiled by the federal government today. The plan is expected to cost $250 million per year from July 2025. “These payments go on the country’s credit card,” Ms McKenzie told Sky News Australia. “There is also a flow-on effect that will be for small to medium business. “If that becomes the norm, how are they going to afford it and will it perversely disincentivise employing women?”
