Syria’s humanitarian challenges after nearly 14 years of brutal conflict
The United Nations is calling for a large-scale response to growing humanitarian needs in Syria, as the country heads into its post-Assad era. The Syrian leader’s family ruled with an iron fist for half a century before he fled to Moscow on Sunday (Dec 8) when Damascus fell to armed rebel forces. Thousands of Syrians have been killed in almost 14 years of conflict, which also displaced 12 million people.
