Every one of the last 12 months has ranked as the planet's hottest on record, WMO said on Wednesday (June 5) and there is now an 80% chance that at least one of the next five years, will be the first in which the planet's average temperature temporarily exceeds 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) for a full year. It is also highly likely that one of the next five years will beat 2023 as the world's hottest year on record, the WMO said. The run of exceptional heat pushed the average global temperature over the last 12 months to its highest for any 12-month period since records began, at 1.63 degrees Celsius about pre-industrial times.-- Report from Reuters (Production: Cecile Mantovani)
