Texas law gets rid of mandatory rest breaks for construction workers
For decades, there has been no state-wide regulation on rest breaks to keep construction workers in Texas safe. Liberal Texan cities Austin and Dallas took matters into their own hands, passing local ordinances requiring 10-minute rest breaks every four hours. But last year, Texas passed a sweeping new law, prohibiting cities from enforcing or creating regulations that are stronger than the state’s in broad areas including labour and finance.
