The Japanese grassroots movement of atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, also known as Hibakusha, receives the award “for its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again”, said Jorgen Watne Frydnes, the head of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. “In response to the atomic bomb attacks of August 1945, a global movement arose whose members have worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of using nuclear weapons,” he said. “Gradually, a powerful international norm developed, stigmatising the use of nuclear weapons as morally unacceptable. This norm has been known as the nuclear taboo.” Subscribe to our channel: http://bit.ly/AJSubscribe Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AJEnglish Find us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/aljazeera Check our website: http://www.aljazeera.com/ Check out our Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/aljazeeraenglish/ Download AJE Mobile App: https://aje.io/AJEMobile #aljazeeraenglish #BreakingNews #aljazeeralivenews #aljazeeraenglish #palestine #newsfeed #news #aljazera #latestnews #gaza #israel #Iran #IranHelicopterAccident #hezbollah #southlebanon #lebanonisraelbordertension #BreakingNews #news
