The day the Wright brothers made history
120 years ago Sunday, Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first controlled flight of a powered aircraft. Orville piloted first, flying the Wright Flyer 1 for 12 seconds and covering 120 feet (36 meters). The brothers flew four times that day on a windy barrier island on the coast of North Carolina. Wilbur flew last, covering 850 feet in just under a minute. But the plane was damaged when a gust of wind rolled it over. It never flew again. You can view the restored aircraft at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. #WrightBrothers #FirstFlight #WrightFlyer #AviationHistory Watch CGTN LIVE on your computer, tablet or mobile https://cgtnamerica.vhx.tv/videos/hd-live-broadcasts Subscribe to CGTN America on YouTube Follow CGTN America: Twitter: @cgtnamerica Facebook: @cgtnamerica Instagram: @cgtnamerica TikTok: @newstoks This material is distributed by MediaLinks TV, LLC on behalf of CCTV.
