“The evil will lose”: Zelenskyy delivers holiday message to Ukrainians amid war with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the nation in a holiday message on Sunday, assuring his people of the eventual defeat of Russia in a war they have waged since February 2022. In the video address, Zelenskyy stands in front of Kyiv’s Pechersk Lavra monastery complex reminding Ukrainians that Christmas is no longer about dinners or decorations, but the people who will eventually make it home to their families. 2023 marks the first time Ukraine will celebrate Christmas Day on Dec. 25, as opposed to Jan. 7. The switch comes after Zelenskyy signed into law a parliamentary bill to "abandon the Russian cultural and religious heritage,” officially switching the date of the holiday in Ukraine to distance the country from it’s neighbour Russia’s long-standing tradition.
