The Health Ministry has intensified its efforts to combat the potential spread of Mpox. On August 14, 2024 the World Health Organization officially declared Mpox, formerly Monkeypox, a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. This declaration follows the identification of a new, highly transmissible strain, clade 1, which has led to more severe illness and rapid spread, particularly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring countries.
