The rise in 'flaking': Why people are cancelling social plans without a second thought

Sky News host Caroline Marcus has weighed in on the art of ‘flaking’ following reports of it becoming more common. According to a report by The Guardian, there has been a significant increase in flaking - cancelling social plans at late notice or at the very last minute. The cost of living, burnout, growing levels of social fragmentation due to social media and smartphones, and the increasing normalisation of inconsiderate behaviour in favour of self-interest are all cited as contributing factors. "I hate flaking. I just think it's basic disrespect. But I do have to say that I now have come to expect it," Ms Marcus said.
