THE STATUS OF THE BACK-BONE INFRASTRUCTURE: 2500 PEOPLE BENEFIT FROM THE DIGITAL LITERACY TRAINING
The Ministry of Information, Communication and National Guidance has updated Parliament on the status of both the National Backbone Infrastructure in Local Government and Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund. The Minister of State for ICT & National Guidance Godfrey Kabyanga and line agencies committed to improving service delivery despite challenges of inadequate funding. In the meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on ICT & National Guidance, Maurice Mugisha the Deputy MD of UBC also notified the MPS about the temporary disconnection of some up-country television services due to the debt to pay the satellite fees. The deputy vice chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Information, Communication, Technology and National Guidance Iddi Isabirye chaired a meeting engaging the Ministry of ICT & NG featuring the line agencies. In this meeting, the MPS sought to understand the current status and performance of the National Back-Bone Infrastructure in Local Government and Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund being implemented by UCC. The officials of UCC informed the MPS of how the increase in the number of schools including the seed schools created more gaps in the need to increase ICT services.
