ANU Middle East expert Ian Parmeter says there are “encouraging” signs in the truce talks regarding the situation in Gaza. Hamas delegates are in Cairo discussing a potential truce amid the ongoing conflict. Mr Hamilton told Sky News Australia that Israel have offered “a 40-day ceasefire in exchange for something like 33 hostages to be released”. “If that’s the case, it would be a much longer ceasefire than we’ve seen in the past. “It would provide an almost relief for the civilians in Gaza and of course enable food and much needed medical aid. “We’ll just simply have to wait to see if the negotiations will work. “The big sticking point is how long the ceasefire is for.”
